Mel Hood: Chief Animal Welfare Officer

“My time with VAWZ has been hugely rewarding and humbling. Being able to make a difference, on a daily basis, in the lives of our animals and their owners, particularly in rural communities that are the most in need of help, is so gratifying and heart-warming. It has been inspiring to see the organization grow from such a small beginning to where we are today, working with both wild and domestic animals in urban and rural communities across the country.

The people I’ve had the privilege to work with have taught me many valuable lessons, and continue to motivate me with their passion, dedication and resilience in the face of numerous challenges. I am proud to contribute to such an important cause, and look forward to seeing VAWZ continue to thrive and flourish for many years to come.”

Born and raised in this country, Mel has always had a love and fascination for animals and the outdoors. Mel joined VAWZ in 2011, and is the current Chief Animal Welfare Officer and Operations Manager.
